Low Carb Trail Mix




A great energizing, low carb, trail mix. It is yummy too.

1 16oz can peanuts
1 10oz can cashews
1 8oz package sunflower seeds shelled
2 cups plain bran cereal
1 3.4 oz bag M & M's (Morale Boosters!)
Dry bananas (optional)

It is best to use salt free nuts, if possible.
Mix all the ingredients in a quart size bag and enjoy!

I haven been asked in the past about adding raisins, dried mango and pinapple, and you can add them, but keep in mind that all these dried fruits are high on the glycemic index.

  1. People have a tendency to worry about the fat in the nuts and chocolate. Fat is supposed to be a part of food people! And it is an important dietary necessity. But it is the kind of fat that we eat that is the problem. Nuts are a good source of the good fats if you control your portions (the quart size bag is for storage, not portion). And chocolate is a good source anti-oxidants. So control your trail mix portions and the fat in the nuts and chocolate will not be a problem.
